Burning Issues
It’s that time of year again when we undertake a seasonal hazard reduction burn here at QER’s New Fuels Development Centre.
To me it’s fascinating to watch the cycle of life here on our site. Within days of the first rain, green buds appear and soon these become lush tall grass. After a few months, the grass is brown and tinder dry and, left unchecked, a significant hazard.
That’s why QER has a systematic plan in place to reduce the fuel load and the potential risk of damaging bushfires.
We’re very grateful to Barry Maluga and his highly experienced team at ERRRC for their meticulous planning and support throughout the process. Thanks to the QER team too for their hard work side by side with Barry’s team, to complete a safe and successful hazard reduction burn.
On another important matter, this month we farewell our Site Supervisor, Paul Miller. I’d like to thank Paul for his contribution to the QER team over 8 years and on behalf of all of us at QER, wish he and Ange every good thing for the future.
