Indigenous Ranger Program a Great Idea
I recently visited the Indigenous Land and Sea Ranger base here in Gladstone. The program is sponsored by the Port Curtis Coral Coast (PCCC) Trust, industry, and the Queensland Department of Environment and Science. It is the product of a lot of hard work by the Gidarjil Development Corporation. QER is a proud sponsor of the program, along with other Gladstone industries and I think it is a fantastic initiative.
The program makes a real environmental contribution through activities such as marine monitoring and weed and pest control.
It also provides young local indigenous people with opportunities for training and employment and pathways towards careers in areas such as marine science and environmental monitoring.
Congratulations to the rangers and staff, Gidarjil, the PCCC Trust and the sponsors on a great initiative.
