Landman Strikes a Chord

Landman Strikes a Chord

Like many Gladstonians, I’ve been enjoying writer/director Taylor Sheridan’s latest offering – Landman. Perhaps it’s because I can relate to Tommy Norris – the brave and ruggedly handsome oil industry manager, solving every problem in minutes with a stroke of genius. But enough about me.

Of course, Landman is a bit exaggerated in places and laced with drama and intrigue. So far I haven’t had to deal with any drug cartels in the course of my job. And the safety practices shown leave much to be desired and would never be acceptable in Australia in 2025.

What I do like though, is that Landman portrays people at work, doing real jobs. It’s a reminder to people who maybe don’t have experience in industrial centres like Gladstone, that the energy and minerals that support our quality of life don’t magically appear.

They are a result of the resilience, sacrifices and hard work of the people who live in communities like ours.
