Peace & Prosperity
ANZAC Day this year was a timely reminder to be grateful for the hard-won peace and prosperity we enjoy in Australia. We’ve seen from the events in the Ukraine that peace and prosperity can never be taken for granted.
In our sometimes cynical society, where it’s easy to criticize with the click of a mouse, we can forget to be grateful for our many gifts: economic prosperity; fresh food; clean water; world class medical care; freedom from tyranny and chaos; freedom to express our thoughts openly and to live our lives the way we want to.
Those gifts did not appear by accident. They came from the hard work and diligence of those who came before us. Nor have they been sustained by accident. They have been protected by the courage and sacrifices of those who fought on our Country’s behalf.
To me, ANZAC Day is a time to reflect on those gifts with gratitude, and on those who fought and even gave their lives to protect our way of life.
It’s also a time to reflect on the legacy we will leave the next generation. While hopefully we will not be called on to fight, we can help sustain the ANZAC legacy by the way we treat each other, and through our gratitude for all that we have.
All of us at QER wish to pay our respects to those who have served our country or are continuing to serve, and especially those who have paid the ultimate price.
Lest we forget.
