Celebrating First Nations
This coming week is NAIDOC week. In the Gladstone Area where most of QER’s activities are centred, the First Nations Bailai, Gurang, Gooreng Gooreng and Taribelang Bunda peoples are the traditional custodians. In 2018, the Federal Court recognised that those peoples, collectively referred to as Port Curtis Coral Coast group (PCCC), hold native title over land and sea in the area.
QER also has exploration tenements outside Gladstone on the traditional lands of the First Nations Gaangalu, Barada Kabalbara, Yetimarala and Darumbal peoples.
QER is committed to working collaboratively with the first nations peoples to ensure that their rights and cultural heritage are respected and properly protected.
We want to take the opportunity to respectfully and gratefully acknowledge the traditional owners and their elders as part of the world’s oldest living culture, and wish them well during the week’s celebrations.
